Widescreen wallpapers!

Nootropic, I love them for doing this... They've put together a wicked little gallery of DRM-Related Antipixel Buttons and Badges, very useful for showing your support for the free data movement thing. :D

Oh, and this lovely little programme (Nix / Mac OS X only) will record your screen actions via a VNC connection, and save it as an swf file. Curse me for being win32. ;) vnc2swf

And while we're on yet another web trawl, here's a site with

Goodbye longest day,...

... Hellooooooooooo dark nights! Time to produce some ugly Drum & Bass whilst I'm in a suitably dark mood.

FINAL EXAMS today! French to round them all off, then a month of........ Nothing, pretty much. Then a bit of holiday, then another month of doing nothing. Woo. Fingers crossed that I do well enough to get into my Uni... I'm really nervous about it =X

Critique of latest Coldplay album (X&Y) and background on band

... For those who don't know, check out this MusicRemedy article on Coldplay and their latest album, X&Y. Very interesting reading, even for someone who's followed them with interest since their first EPs. :)

Quote of the day...

"I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world because they'd never expect it."

How backward can you get????

Yes, this deserves four (or more) question marks, and maybe a few exclamation marks to boot... I can't believe that some Americans STILL believe that the theory of Evolution is blasphemous! Perhaps they're jealous because they were left out of the evolutionary ladder... For the full article, see The (ever-omniscient... Oh I'm sorry, was that blasphemous?) Register: US scientists launch evolution fight-back.

Excellent - FACTUAL - reporting (just like the theory of Evolution is). Also note the differing contexts of the word 'evolution', and how it applies to a scientific context.

Oh, and feel free to pass the link on to anybody who believes that Creationism is the be-all and end-all of how we all came about, and then slap them round the face with a wet trout. For me. Thanks.

It's great to be a BritBlogger

Hopefully in the coming few days or so, I'll get approved for listing on the BritBlog: 'The British Bloggers Directory' site - a brilliant directory of British bloggers both in this country and overseas. Aww, it's like we're one big, multinational little family.

And hopefully, I'll be able to wear this on my blog with pride:

This is a BritBlog!

PH: Right Side of Brain Test!

The idea is to find the man's head in the picture of coffee beans. I found it in under 5 seconds, so I'm pretty pleased about that. How long will it take you? It's not as easy as it sounds ;)

An Effective Solution for Spam

An Effective Solution for Spam? This guy thinks so, and he's written a huge page all about it. It looks hopeful in my opinion... 3D captchas: the way of the future! \o/

Wow, a filmgoer I am once more

I've been to see loads of films recently! Some of the more memorable ones include The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (oh yes!). Two very enjoyable films the both of them, and Episode III... Wow. Such an incredible conclusion to the prequel trilogy, the film was nothing short of breathtaking, right from the incredibly-detailed intro sequence. I can't (won't!) say any more of it, except for the simple fact that you MUST go and see it, it makes everything make sense.

Currently watching Elektra, and I'm enjoying it for the Kung Fu, but it's not a shade on Episode III. ;)

BBC - Radio 3 - The Beethoven Experience

"From 9am on Sunday 5 June to midnight on Friday 10 June, BBC Radio 3 will broadcast every single note of Ludwig van Beethoven. Every symphony, every quartet, every sonata ... and plenty of Beethoven surprises too."

I suggest you take a listen... My digital radio will be recording the entire thing (that's over 100 hours' worth) - so glad I forked out £40 for it over 3 and a half years ago. (I got it half price, don't you know) :)

More information on the BBC Radio 3 'The Beethoven Experience' minisite.

Star Trek Enterprise Executive Producer talks to Sci Fi about why the series failed

Personally I love Enterprise, I even grew to love the theme tune (big fan of the traditionally-composed, theatrical instrumentation scores that the previous Star Trek series have) - was desperately disappointed when I heard it was to be axed after only 4 years of its proposed 7 year run. A real shame.

Rick Berman talked to Sci Fi about this, and you can read it on the 29th of April edition of SciFi Wire: http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?category=0&id=30935.

We have a General Election on Thursday...

... And I'm still unsure which political party to vote for. This is awful; in our day and age, all the parties are so undecided and shockingly untrustworthy, I really don't have the heart to vote for any of them. Certainly not the Conservatives - my granny of 81 years rang us up to say, as a staunch lifelong Conservative, that she was voting Lib Dem this year - and Labour aren't much better, with their increases of taxation and failed past promises.

That said, the Conservatives under Margaret Thatcher did want to privatise everything they could get their hands on. I think I might end up having to vote Lib Dem, if only tactically - I couldn't face wasting a vote by abstaining, as that leads to a distillation of the accurate vote and inaccurate bias towards the more popular parties.

Flippin' eck. Ah well, either way I vote, I'm screwed - my demographic (middle class, student, soon to be first-time houseowner and newly-employed) is the one that'll get hit the most with tax increases and National Insurance etc. Bollocks to it, time to vote Liberal Democrat.

I don't want the €uro as my currency though =/

...

Argh! haha, I'm going to be insane by next Thursday at this rate.

One format only, phu-leeeeze

I agree with this site's propsal entirely - the next generation of DVD needs to be formalised and standardised, and pronto. I can't be dealing with yet another format war.

These guys are pushing for a standard, and I support them all the way (even if the outcome's not Blu-Ray, the format with superior storage capabilities but requiring a new drive for reading and writing): HD-DVD: One Format Only! - Official Site
